We have several customer machines that are already out in the field, with a group policy lockdown, custom desktop, and restricted start menu in place but this icon STILL gets placed on the all users' desktop (public desktop) after Edge updates. This issue occurs on existing machines, not machines that are being imaged/configured. We don't want to go down that path either. Prevent Edge Desktop shortcut as part of Windows Autopilot – Mobile-First Cloud-FirstWe don't use deployment software, but rather clone the machines via bare metal. I just REALLY hope that someone can forward this to the powers that be. If a system has a non-administrative group policy is in place, then you should ABIDE by those security settings. I'm really getting sick of Microsoft assuming that they can just stick things on all users' desktop or under common apps access on the start menu, even though a non-administrators group policy exists. Even though we attempt to secure our systems, a lot of times the customers put it behind an insecure firewall. We DON'T want non-administrative users to have access to the internet. We use a local group policy to lockdown non-administrative users, but VERY frequently, when Windows Updates are performed, the Microsoft Edge icon ends back up on the all users desktops. I work for a company that sells LOCAL biometrics systems. STOP PUTTING THE MICROSOFT EDGE ICON ON THE PUBLIC DESKTOP AFTER UPDATES!!! I REALLY hope that someone, with a relationship with someone higher-up at Microsoft, can get this across to them.
